Swim Meets

Summer Swim Meet Information

We compete at 4 different single meets during the regular season of approximately 8 weeks. Meets are generally Saturday mornings beginning at 9am (warm-ups between 8-8:30am). We host 3 meets at home and go away for 1 events.

Swimmers are encouraged to attend as many meets as possible and are required to attend at least 2 swim meets. We understand that summers are busy with vacations and other sporting activities. Although we would like to have every swimmer at every meet, we do our best to be flexible with summer schedules. Please notify the coach as soon as possible when you know that your swimmer will not be able to attend a meet. This helps tremendously in planning the heat sheets and preparing for the meet.

Important Meet Information

Swimmers need to be at host pool NO LATER than 8:00AM for warm-ups-----Morning meet starts promptly at 9:00 AM

Swimmers need to stay in team area/bullpen so they can be ready for their events. If parents need to be with swimmers, please setup near the bullpen area or work the bullpen. It is time consuming & slows the meet down when a bullpen parent/volunteer has to search for a swimmer amongst a large meet crowd.

Swim meets usually last about 5 hours – plus or minus depending on the number of swimmers from each team. The bigger the teams, the longer the meet.

Suggested items to bring to meets

i. Parents: chairs, cold drinks (to keep hydrated), sun screen, sunglasses, cap/hat.

ii. Swimmers: GOGGLES, swim cap, towels, t-shirt (leave an extra dry towel in the car), drinks, healthy snacks, sun screen.

(Optional---deck of cards, handheld games, books or puzzles, portable entertainment).

iii. Cash for Concession Sale Snacks

Please contribute a 2-Liter soft drink bottle per family for HOME Meets--to be sold at concessions.(This is how we raise money for the Team). Can be dropped off at weekly practice. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Swimmers are not permitted to participate on the team if swimmers are active members of and are swimming for another (summer) swim team--CFS League Rule.

Swimmers will not be permitted to swim wearing a logo for another swim team.

Scoring

Scoring is done by giving a certain number of points to the team that scores 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the individual races and the relays:

a. Individual Races - 1st place - 3 pts, 2nd place - 2 pts, 3rd place - 1 pt

b. Relays - 1st place - 5 pts, 2nd place - 3 pts, 3rd place - 1 pt

c. No team is allowed to “sweep” all 3 places in relay events—can only take 2 of the 3 max.

The team with the most total points at the end of the meet wins the overall meet.

Meet Results

Heat sheets with times will be posted to TeamSnap after the meet and ribbons will be distributed the following week during practice.

Volunteers

The Dolphins Swim Team is an all-volunteer organization. This program cannot be successful without your help. WE NEED ALL PARENTS TO HELP AT MEETS-especially HOME MEETS. (Only 2 home meets).

Positions required at Home Meets include:

  • Timers - 8

  • Runners - 2

  • Bullpen Organizers - 3 to 4

  • Scorers - 1 to 2

  • Ribbon Writers - 2 to 4

  • Starter - 1

  • Concessions - 4-or more

Other volunteers are needed to assist at Parties, Set-up and Clean-up, Advertising, Purchasing and many other areas.

Timers, Runners, Bullpen Organizers, Scorers, and Ribbon Writers are also required at away meets.

Volunteer sign-ups will be done via TeamSnap. We can train you for any assignment. This will make the meets go faster and run smoother.

You can also notify a coach or team coordinator where you would like to help.
